NFL Draft Analysis Over-Analysis on Draft Shields Realities

Scouts, fans, and media love nothing more than to rank all players and prospects in a linear manner.  Everyone knows that there are also a wealth of intangibles.  And of course team fan forums go into justification mode in a quasi fight or flight fan mentality.  Regarding the Bills, many have already fled including moi.  Only the love of analysis and post-Wilson disposition of the team keeps me with an ear to the wall.  Nevertheless, what really matters?

NFL Draft Analysis Analyzing the Dolphins Draft Free agency rumbles onwards although only scraps remain. The Dolphins were entertaining G Richie Incognito yesterday and it will be interesting to discover whether they were involved in any trade talks for Kamerion Wimbley who was dealt by the Browns to Oakland for New England’s 3rd round pick. As for the draft itself, nothing much has changed from seven days ago on the Dolphins front; the pro day season is well under way – more information on that later on – while rumours persist that the Dolphins have a strong interest in restricted FA free safety Antoine Bethea of the Colts who would cost that 12th overall pick.

NFL Draft Analysis By PATRIOTS Analyst Craig Natale

Keep in mind that when the Patriots draft; they focus on the players’ ability to play multiple positions and to contribute on special teams. I would also be willing to bet my house they make at least one trade in this draft as they do not have room on their roster for 9 additional rookies.

Might they trade two or three of their 6th round picks to move up a few picks in the 4th or 5th round? Who knows- but we do know that the only guarantee in this draft is that they will not take a Quarterback or Kicker in the first three rounds.

8.) Buffalo Bills - Michael Huff, S, Texas. Buffalo has a void to fill at strong safety now that Lawyer Milloy is gone, and Huff would be the guy to fill it. He ran a very impressive 4.36 at February’s combine and has tremendous versatility. If the Bills allow No. 1 corner Nate Clements to leave when he’s a free agent next offseason, Huff could take over his position. No matter where he plays in the secondary, Huff fit’s the Bills’ scheme perfectly.

Make no mistake about it; the combine can be a very humbling experience. For many, it is the first time in their entire life they have been placed on a level playing field with their peers. Most of these young men have spent their entire lives being the best, strongest and fastest athletes in their home town, city, county and state. They were heroes in high school; and have gotten used to being placed on a pedestal for most of their lives.

NFL Draft Analysis 8.) Buffalo Bills – Vernon Davis, tight end, Maryland. I’m enamored with Davis. He ran a 4.38 at the combine, had a 42” vertical leap, and bench presses 465 lbs. Normally I don’t take a ton of stock in the combine, but numbers like that can’t be ignored. The Bills currently have former third round pick Kevin Everett at this position, but they simply can’t pass on Davis. No linebacker in the game can cover a tight end of this speed. Also, new GM Marv Levy spoke of character players when he was first given the Bills’ job; you won’t find many players with more character than Davis. Great tight ends are a young quarterback’s best friend, and J.P. Losman will become a different player with Davis.
